Algarve celebrates a lot of holidays throughout the year. Festivities are usually traditional in nature, and most festive days are celebrated regionally or locally. There are also other celebrations that are countrywide such as the Holy Week before Easter, or Christmas.
The year begins with New Year. From there, major holidays are in Holy Week which is a religius holiday in March or April, and of course, Carnaval.
Some local festive days that are celebrated are the Day of Flowers in September, although previously in Algarve, the holiday was celebrated in Castro Marim, very close to the border of Spain. It is celebrated in the month of August. There is a medieval theme on this day.
The International Music Festival of Loule is one of the most famous in the country, and is celebrated in Loule.
