Albufeira is a place in the District of Faro, in the Portuguese Algarve. It has a population of about 36,000 people, and is located on the southern coast of Portugal. Its name comes from Arabic and means "Castle by the Sea. (little sea, or lake)" From this the Natural Park of Valencia also got its name, as the two were chirstened by the Arabs, and they are both in a place where the sea has ultimate importance. Albufeira is a destination that, from a tourism point of view, offers many activities such as play golf, go to the beach, practice windsurf, or take a walk. It is easy to find accomodation here in a hotel, a chalet or villa, rural house, or apartment. In Albufeira, you will be able to enjoy its beaches, taking in the sun´s rays, relax, and simply enjoy your vacation.
Albufeira is a municipality that has a city center and 4 seperate districts that pertain to it. They are Ferreiras, Guia, Olhos de Água and Paderne. The city center of Albufeira has about 17,000 habitants, and all the districts together in total have 36,000. Ferreiras has 5,000 people, Guia about 4,000, Paderne 3,000, and Olhos de Agua has about 6,000 people.
